Branding
Each year, Shepley Bulfinch sends a holiday mailer to clients and friends. The mailer includes a notebook, card from the president, as well as the packaging. The blue notebooks feature a new endleave design with a matching placeholder ribbon.
Inspired by a sky-light window in the Phoenix office, the inside endleave opens with a glass shattering effect paired with a gold ribbon, a nod to the gold accents on the staircase. The card showcases an outside shot of the Phoenix office with a letter from the president inside. The two were kept inside a box with a sleeve to keep them safe. Printed on FSC-Certified Paper, the dot design was inspired by the Sparkle and Chime installation at the Evans Way Park near Fenway in Boston. The installation included mirror discs dangling from fish net which would reflect and sing a tune while they bounced off one another. The dots show the dance the mirror discs enjoyed hanging from the trees.
Subsequent years were inspired by designer Abby Gordon’s summer trip to Cuba. As part of the Howe Travelling Fellow, a biennial four week trip awarded to one applicant in the office, hundreds of photos were captured and collected on Abby’s journey through the entire island. These images were distilled down to six which would become the postcards included in the box. The front endleave was drawn from countless walls slowly decaying previous layers of color. This was carried out to the wrap for the box, highlighting a distressed facade of a residence tower.
During a mishap in production, a paper pocket was designed and added to the back endleave as a design solution.
